Las Galletas
The quaint little fishing village of Las Galletas is located directly at the foot of the apartment – a quiet town with light traffic and lots of places P (no p-Beacons).
Las Galletas is approximately 12-15 km to the north-western of the tourist resorts Las America and Los Cristianos where there are buses with short intervals at a very low price.
Las Galletas originally means “biscuits” – a ship in the 19th century stranded with a large cargo biscuits which floated ashore.
The city is still an active fishing village with a “Lonja de Pescado” – fish market – which landes freshly caught fish directly from the cutter. The locals are queuing 1-2 hours when the fish are cut up (tuna, for example) and sold, after which the stalls closes.
Las Galletas’ population is about 50% local residents 50% tourists and the city is to overlook without a car. Here you will find all the shops, restaurants and bars you wish. The city is absolutely not overrun by tourists, so here is cityscape dominated by local residents.
The district is relatively new and the residents come primarily from Venezuela and Cuba, giving Las Galletas a suitably recumbency, peace and quiet
You will also find bus stops to all of the islands destination together with Taxi ranks. Buses are very modern and cheap – even wheelchair adapted.
THE BEACHES
In contrast to the more northern tourist resorts there are peace and quiet without it seems too boring – few tourists use the beach, which in turn is influenced by the city’s locals often use the beach late into the evening.
The long promenade is calm and quiet with restaurants and bars lined up along the coast. This continues from the port as a crescent-shaped beach.
The beach of Las Galletas is characterized by the former volcanic activity. Here is lava rocks and reefs which gives the area good quiet bathing. Black sand and crushed stone can be seen generally in the range.
There are showers and lifeguards at the beaches throughout the summer.
The beach east of the harbour with the Paseo Maritime pedistrian street is also a favorite spot for local surfers.
THE HABOUR
Here are are fishermen and sailors. In the morning fishermen are landing absolutely fresh fish to the fish market – mainly tuna and local (hilarious) fish. You have to get up early to share in the goodies.
Picturesque small richly decorated fishing boats seen between vandskutere for rent and maritime services for tourists in the form of cruises for fishing, submarine exploration and scuba diving.
Entrance to the port of Las Galletas is surrounded by cozy bars and restaurants – all good and low prices.
